Climate Finance – financing climate projects in Portuguese Speaking Countries in Africa


Mariana Abrantes de Sousa is an international financial consultant, and former investment banker, Mariana was instrumental in the launching Project Financing and PPPs in Portugal and in managing the transaction cycle as arranger of award winning deals in sectors such as energy, transportation and health. A Senior PPP Specialist with extensive service as member of the Board and of credit and investment committees and as advisor on PPP development and infrastructure financing to Government authorities and Development Financing Institutions in various countries in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia.

Mariana is active as a trainer and consultant in the preparation, structuring and financing of infrastructure and climate investment projects, including funding by the Green Climate Fund.

Mariana holds a BA in economics from UC Berkeley, and MPA from Princeton University. She is a member of the Ordem dos Economists , the Portuguese Institute of Corporate Governance. She volunteers with the Fulbright Commission Portugal, with the Sousa Mendes Foundation, and TESE Association for Development and in mentoring young women with Soroptimist International
